Meet IRP Shortlist Nominee Mel Trott
To celebrate Meridian Business Support being shortlisted in a number of categories at the IRP Awards 2016, we have been talking to the members of our team who made the shortlist in individual categories. Today we caught up with Yeovil Business Manager,
Mel Trott about her recruitment experience and being nominated for Business Manager of the Year 2016.
"I‘ve been working in recruitment for 21 years. I got my first recruitment job when I walked into an agency looking for work and they offered me a role greeting candidates and helping with their paperwork. I still can’t believe that at the time we only had one computer at that branch and we hardly ever used it! Quickly I realised that I loved helping to change people’s lives by helping them find work.
"I realised that I loved helping to change people’s lives by helping them find work."
Initially I started out doing driving and industrial temps, then office roles and eventually I was offered an internal recruitment position with one of my clients. I worked for them for eight years and recruited just about every role during their huge growth. Six years ago I came back into the agency world as a Perm Recruiter with Meridian. This lead to me becoming a Business Manager; looking after a number of branches.
Over the years I have definitely changed my business development skills. Some of this has been driven by market forces and some of this has been through management development courses and my own experiences. In recruitment you have to roll with the times.
"I am a great believer in listening to what the customer needs"
I am a great believer in listening to what the customer needs, finding a solution to this and working out how we can deliver this to them on a long term basis.
There are some fantastic Managers who made the shortlist for Business Manager of the Year at the IRP Awards this year, and it is a complete honour to have been nominated alongside them. I’m really looking forward to the main event!"
