Job interview hints and tips

Whether you're getting your foot on the career ladder, or a seasoned professional, the job interview process can be daunting and nerve-wracking for everyone.

Job interviews are your opportunity to demonstrate you are the best fit for the role, including your qualifications, achievements, interest in the new company and your personality. Preparing for an interview will not only help you with this, it will help you feel more confident. Check out our recruitment team's top tips for preparing for your interview.

  1. Review the job description
Reading the job description fully will give you an understanding of what the employer is looking for in their new employee. This will help you determine what elements of your career history, qualifications and qualities you will want to promote during the interview. It also helps you learn more about the company and possibly give you ideas for questions to ask the interview

  2. Research the company
Don't be caught out at interview by not knowing anything about the company. In addition to being able to confidentially answer the 'tell us what you know about [Company]' question, researching the company will give you a better idea about its culture, management and team so you can be sure that, if you are successful, you can make an informed decision.

  3. Practice interview questions
[Practicing common interview questions BLOG] is a great way of preparing for an interview. This will help you present yourself accurately, eloquently and impressively. Make a note of your accomplishments and skills, and think about how you can get those across to prove you are the best candidate for the job.

  4. Think of questions for the interviewer
One of the best ways to make a great first impression and stand out? Ask thoughtful questions about the position and company you're interviewing with! As you research the company and review the job description, keep a list of questions you may want to ask. Some of our recruitment teams' favourite questions are: "What will success look like in this role?", "What is your favourite thing about working for this company?" and "What will a typical day look like for a person in this position?"

  5. Plan your travel
The best way to keep the interview day nerves at bay? Plan your travel arrangements. Review where the interview is located, how long it will get there from your home and how you will get there. Make sure you leave early to account for any traffic or unexpected delays - it always looks good to arrive a little early too!
