Waste Manager

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Waste and Recycling Manager to lead our organisation’s waste strategy, drive continuous improvement in waste management practices, and ensure full regulatory compliance. This role is key to achieving waste cost reduction targets, maintaining high environmental standards, and supporting our wider sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:
 Waste Strategy Management
  • Support and develop the company-wide waste management strategy
  • Deliver training on correct segregation and handling of waste to various departments (production, engineering, support services, labs, etc.)
  • Provide timely reports on waste management performance to business leaders
2Budget and Cost Management
  • Deliver year-on-year reduction in waste management costs
  • Maintain accurate records of waste streams and disposal
  • Approve and reconcile invoices from waste carriers
Reporting and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Agency regulations and WM3 technical guidance
  • Conduct internal waste audits across departments
  • Maintain audit readiness for ISO14001 and Environment Agency requirements
  • Partner with contractors on change of custody audits
  • Sample sump waste as needed for internal or regulatory requirements
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
  • Work with department managers to develop waste reduction plans
  • Advise commercial/operational teams on product write-offs and waste disposal costs
  • Deliver in-house and on-the-line training to operational staff
  • Monitor and guide waste segregation practices within production teams
Key Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of Environmental Agency WM3 guidance and ISO14001 standards
  • Relevant environmental qualification (NEBOSH, IEMA, or similar)
  • Proven experience in waste management, preferably in FMCG or a similar industry
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in engaging with all business levels
  • Excellent organisational skills, with attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.)
  • Self-motivated and resilient, able to work independently or as part of a team
