Ready to come off the tools… but not step away from the industry? If you’re an experienced Overhead Lines professional looking to stay hands-on without the constant travel and working away, this is your chance to take your career in a new direction.
We’re working with a leading technical training provider who is looking for a time-served industry expert to step into an Instructor role—and they’ll train you to be a trainer.

This is ideal for someone who:

âś… Has solid overhead lines experience
âś… Is physically fit and enjoys practical work
âś… Wants to be home most nights (Manchester-based 90% of the time)
âś… Is ready to pass on their knowledge to the next generation

This is not a classroom-heavy role—around 80% of your time will be spent delivering practical, hands-on training as follows:
  • Deliver high-quality practical training in overhead line construction & maintenance
  • Support classroom-based learning when required
  • Design and develop engaging training programmes
  • Assess learners against industry standards (NVQ / Diploma / End Point Assessment)
  • Ensure all training is delivered safely and in line with legislation
  • Work closely with industry clients to meet training needs
  • Support learners to achieve recognised qualifications

We are keen to hear from applicants from the trade—someone who’s done the job and can teach it.

Essential skills:
  • 10 years’ experience in electricity distribution / overhead lines
  • Strong overhead line construction & maintenance background
  • Previously held (or currently hold) relevant authorisations
  • Good understanding of LV/HV systems
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in practical environments

Desirable (but can be developed):
  • Teaching / training qualification (e.g. PTLLS)
  • Assessor qualification (D32/33 or equivalent)
  • IOSH / NEBOSH or similar

👉 Don’t tick every box? That’s okay—full training and development support is available.

Why Make the Move? This is a rare opportunity to stay in the industry you know, while improving your work-life balance:
  • âś… Be home most nights – 90% Manchester-based
  • âś… No more constant working away
  • âś… Stable, structured working week (Mon–Fri)
  • âś… Long-term career progression into training & development

đź•’ Hours:
  • Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
  • Start: 7:30/8:00am – Finish: 4:00/4:30pm
🌴 Holiday:
  • 33 days (including bank holidays & Christmas shutdown)
  • +1 day at 5, 7 & 10 years’ service
đź’Ľ Benefits:
  • Pension (5% employee / 3% employer)
  • Health scheme (HSF Level 2)
  • Perkbox discounts
  • Cycle to Work scheme

Make the Shift If you’re ready to step away from the tools full-time—but still want a hands-on, respected role in the industry, this could be the perfect next move.
