The opportunity
The company is seeking an Electrical Design & Control Systems Engineer to join their Engineering team. This is a hands-on, technical role where you'll own the electrical and controls design of the company’s internally developed systems. You'll be the hands-on subject matter expert on PLC programming, electrical cabinet design, and you will ensure efficient system performance across the company’s client base, primarily in the UK and Europe.

What you’ll be doing as Electrical Design and Control Systems Engineer
- Lead all electrical and controls system engineering across product development.
- Design electrical systems including hardware, panel layouts, safety compliance, and 2D schematics.
- Program PLCs using Schneider Machine Expert and CODESYS (Ladder, FBD, and ST).
- Collaborate with engineers, suppliers, and contractors to deliver new systems to specification.
- Troubleshoot, test, and refine existing control systems to optimise reliability.
- Support validation, documentation, compliance (e.g., CE marking), and safety processes.
- Travel occasionally to customer sites across the UK and Europe for installations and support.
What the company is looking for - Electrical Design and Control Systems Engineer
- Electrical Design background involved in developing hardware for machines, cabinet layout, safety, protection & compliance calculations, creation of 2D electrical drawings to allow electrical panel build.
- Degree /HND in electrical engineering, electrical Design, Automation, Control Systems, electronics, OR relevant engineering discipline along with Time served/ Apprenticeship.
- Strong experience in electrical design and cabinet layout for machinery.
- Proven PLC programming skills – CODESYS and Schneider Machine Expert are essential.
- Good knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, LVD 2014/35/EU).
- Familiar with industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
- Practical hands-on engineering mindset with an eye for innovation and compliance.
- Strong communicator and natural team collaborator.
- Must have current driving licence.
Desirable extras (the nice to haves)
- Experience with MQTT, SolidWorks (2D/3D), or special-purpose machinery.
- Exposure to functional specifications, P&IDs, Risk Assessments or HazOps.
