The Role - CAD Design and Development Engineer

Jobs don't come up here very often.
This is a rare opportunity for a hands-on design engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept through to production, working closely with manufacturing and customers, and playing a key role within a close-knit engineering team.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of new products, alongside supporting and enhancing existing product ranges.
While primarily an office-based 3D CAD role, this position also offers meaningful hands-on involvement — supervising builds, supporting testing, and collaborating with procurement, production and Quality Assurance to ensure products are delivered efficiently and compliantly throughout their lifecycle.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Design and development of pressure vessels, manifold assemblies, components, power units and complete engineered systems to customer specifications and recognised international standards
  • Production of regulatory compliance documentation
  • Translating customer requirements into commercially viable engineering solutions
  • Supporting production and Quality Assurance teams during build and test (on-site and occasionally at customer premises)
  • Checking and approving drawings for compliance within the engineering team
  • Managing technical files, Bills of Materials, engineering changes and document revision control
  • Providing post-handover technical support to customers and internal teams

What We’re Looking For

This role is suited to an engineer who is confident working within a drawing office environment and collaborating with colleagues across different teams.

Essential Requirements

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design and DFM
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (ideally SolidWorks)
  • Proven experience designing custom hydraulic manifolds, pressure vessels and hydraulic components
  • Experience compiling Bills of Materials and managing engineering change and revision processes
  • Experience supervising assembly and testing of bespoke hydraulic components and systems
  • Ability to produce technical reports, user manuals and compliance documentation to relevant CEN directives
  • Experience modifying and improving existing designs to optimise performance and cost
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with customers and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to maintain structured project and technical files
  • Full UK driving licence
