About the role
As a Clinical Coder, you will play a key role in ensuring clinical information is recorded accurately and consistently to support patient outcomes and organisational reporting. Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and abstracting clinical information from patient records with a high level of accuracy
- Assigning diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications in line with national standards
- Supporting Payment by Results, audit requirements and service planning through quality coding work
- Meeting agreed productivity and accuracy targets within a structured coding environment
- Liaising with clinicians and healthcare professionals to clarify documentation when required
- Contributing to data quality initiatives and participating in coding audits
Skills and experience
To be considered for this Clinical Coder position, you will need:
- Previous NHS experience in a similar coding or health records role
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classification systems
- Understanding of NHS Clinical Coding Standards and data quality expectations
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage workload efficiently
- Confident IT skills and experience with electronic patient record systems
