Job Purpose
- Carry out general maintenance and repairs around the school site.
- Undertake minor repairs and practical tasks, including putting up boards, fixing items and other general maintenance duties.
- Unblock toilets and deal with routine plumbing and drainage issues.
- Carry out drain clearing and other basic site maintenance as required.
- Undertake porterage duties, including moving furniture, equipment and deliveries safely around the school.
- Carry out litter picking and emptying of bins across the school site.
- Complete daily and weekly health and safety checks as required.
- Report any hazards, defects, damage or maintenance issues to the Site Manager or Business Manager.
- Assist with maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented school environment.
- Support the Site Manager with the preparation and organisation of the school premises for events and activities.
- Act as a keyholder and assist with opening and securing the school premises when required.
- Respond to maintenance and site-related requests from the Site Manager and/or Business Manager.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the effective running of the school site.
- Follow the school's health and safety procedures and policies at all times.
- Carry out assigned inspections and checks accurately and report any concerns promptly.
- Use tools, equipment and cleaning/maintenance materials safely and appropriately.
- Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work.
- Ensure any maintenance issues that cannot be safely resolved are reported to the appropriate member of staff.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Must hold a valid Enhdanced DBS
- Practical and hands-on approach to work.
- Ability to carry out general maintenance and minor repairs.
- Reliable, responsible and punctual.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to undertake physical duties, including lifting, moving equipment and porterage.
- Understanding of the importance of health and safety.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to undertake a range of duties as required by the Site Manager or Business Manager.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism within a school environment.
- Previous experience in a caretaker, premises, maintenance or facilities role.
- Experience working within a school or similar environment.
- Relevant maintenance, health and safety or facilities qualifications.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, drainage, carpentry or other general maintenance work.
