BUYER / PURCHASER

The Opportunity:

This is a responsible Buyer role, requiring an experienced commodity Buyer to work within the busy supply chain, managing Suppliers of Products and Services to this engineering business. You will be accountable for ensuring that the right levels of stock are in place, for driving down product cost through effective contract management, and for negotiation purchasing products at the right/best price to protect & increase profit margins. This role could be offered on a full time basis, or potentially 4 days per week if required.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Supplier Management
      1. Effectively manage all existing & new suppliers. ( how many have they managed/how did they manage them/how often?
      2. Identify key/strategic suppliers & build close working relationships to ensure Product is high quality, delivered on time at the right price.
      3. Establish & maintain Product Purchasing Profile with all key suppliers.
  • Stock Management
      1. Maintain & update inventory records for purchased items.
      2. How large is their present stock portfolio – or historically
      3. Monitor stock levels to ensure we have the correct levels/ mix of stock to maintain our OTIF% to our customers.
      4. Accurately forecast & monitor stock value.
  • Product Cost Management
      1. Drive product cost down through contract management & negotiation.
      2. Improve Product Quality & reduce cost through continuous improvement activities with key suppliers.
      3. Deliver annual cost down targets.
Preferred Skills:
  • Ideally qualified to a minimum of CIPS Level 3 or able & willing to be trained.
  • The ability to estimate what something should cost.
  • Good IT skills are essential.
  • Excellent, persuasive & positive negotiation skills.
  • Solid analytical skills with the ability to create financial reports & conduct cost analyses.
  • Good understanding of supply chain procedures.
