About the Role A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated FE professional to step into a key leadership position as Assistant Head of Department within a Construction and Building Services curriculum area.
This role will support the Head of Department in leading a dynamic provision across Multi-Skills, Property Maintenance Operations, and Bricklaying, delivered across two campuses. You’ll play a central role in shaping curriculum delivery, enhancing teaching quality, and driving positive learner outcomes.
This is a varied, hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced educational environment and is passionate about staff development and student success.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Department in the leadership and development of curriculum, staff, and resources
- Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment across the provision
- Monitor and track performance data to ensure strong learner outcomes
- Inspire and support staff development, performance, and engagement
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and quality enhancement
- Ensure compliance with relevant Health & Safety standards
- Help create an inclusive, high-performing learning environment across both campuses
You will have:
- Significant teaching experience within Further Education
- A strong understanding of teaching, learning, and assessment in FE
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DET/DTLLS)
- Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and Health & Safety requirements
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- Experience of supporting or leading teams (desirable but not essential)
