Jamie Abbott
Head of Learning and Development
I’ve been with Meridian since 2015, leading our suite of internal, instructor-led learning and development programmes. These include a mix of face-to-face workshops and online courses delivered via Microsoft Teams, supporting employees throughout their entire career journey. From our New Starter Programme and CPD courses to our Consultant and Management Career Development Programmes, there is a continuous professional development path for all employees. I also manage relationships with external training providers, overseeing a broad range of apprenticeship programmes and technical qualifications, including Health & Safety, Project Management, and the REC Certificate in Recruitment Practice. In addition, I support the rollout and delivery of our on-demand learning platforms, Litmos Heroes and the Access Learning Management System (LMS).
Before joining Meridian, I spent 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry and began my recruitment career in 1997 with Randstad as a Temporary Consultant. I later moved into permanent recruitment, progressed to Branch and Regional Manager roles with Randstad and Manpower, and joined Manpower’s training team in 2004. I became their Training Manager in 2005 before taking on my current role as Head of Learning & Development at Meridian in 2015.
What I enjoy most about my role is delivering training, whether in person or online, as it gives me the opportunity to connect with colleagues across the business and support their career growth with Meridian. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing people progress: for example, when someone starts with a training workshop, continues with external development, and ultimately earns a promotion or career development opportunities in the organisation. I'm also proud to have continued my own development at Meridian by completing NVQ apprenticeships in Learning & Development and Coaching.
If I had to describe Meridian in three words, they would be:

When not at work, I enjoy playing golf, spending time with my family, attending music events, and walking my dog through the beautiful countryside where I’m fortunate to live.
