Meridian Business Support are proud to be recruiting on behalf of our engineering client, for an Internal Sales Person based in Middlesbrough.

The Company

An ISO:9001 accredited company, our client operate predominantly within the Steel, Construction and Oil & Gas industries where they are proud to provide a second-to-none service. These include in-house processing facilities, profiling software and delivery services to their customers.

Our client who are part of a larger group, are offering an excellent opportunity for a driven individual to join their expanding sales team in Middlesbrough and who is keen to forge a career within the steel industry, with full training and support given within a commercial environment.

The Opportunity

This role is permanent and is to start ASAP, with excellent opportunities for individuals who want to climb the ladder and build a career with this reputable company.

The ideal candidate will have a focused, forward thinking and can-do attitude who can self motivate and have the work ethos to go the extra mile.

Sales experience would be ideal but isn't essential as full training would be given. You will be joining a dynamic sales team of 5 with the view to growing the team.


  • Liaising with the business management team, major customers, major potential customers and the credit controller
  • Ensure that market trends as defined by likely customer, supplier and competitor activity, are fully understood so as inform the development of realistic and achievable sales plans

  • Develop robust sales plans, within the constraints of operational capacity, that seek to secure profitable market share and gross margin growth through a combination of new business and the exploitation of existing accounts to their fullest potential while minimising the cost to serve

  • Ensure sales plans reflect the need to minimise stock levels, work in progress and customer debtor days in order control unnecessary investment in working capital

  • Develop, publicise and apply a business commercial operating policy, informed as appropriate by the Group, within limits of their authority on pricing, credit etc

  • Develop, publicise, apply and monitor customer service standards that seek to build customer retention levels

  • Personally lead negotiations with existing and potential customers and through regular calls and meetings, build relationships to maximise commercial opportunities with them

  • Ensuring that effective systems of control and information exist, monitor sales performance against plan in order to maximise profit potential and where necessary initiate action to bring that performance "back-on-track"

Qualifications and Experience

  • The position requires a highly skilled negotiator with experience in a commercial role, preferably within Steel
  • The job holder must have demonstrated commercial success and have the ability to create a high level of trust between commercial, planning and operational functions

  • Excellent communication skills and good analytical ability would also be advantageous

  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales
