Meridian Health are recruiting for a clinical coding clerk to be based in Sheffield. The ideal candidate will have done clinical coding in a previous role, or be accredited to coding standards (NCCQ)
This is a band 4 position.
3 month initial contract starting in June.
To ensure that clinical information is accurately and efficiently analysed and extracted from patients' case notes, translating this information into appropriate codes for subsequent entry on to the Patient Administration System (PAS). The resulting information is used by the Trust for managing resources, commissioning, research and clinical audit. Provide expert advice and guidance in matters relating to clinical coding to management and clinical staff.
- Extract clinical information from case notes in order to identify diagnoses and surgical procedures. This will involve using own judgement in order to assign primary and secondary status where there are several episodes of care within a hospital stay referring to Senior Clerk or Manager for guidance on more complex cases.
- It is necessary to read through detailed case histories in order to ensure completeness and accuracy of data and this will often involve exposure to potentially distressing/disturbing information/photographs.
- Translate clinical information into appropriate codes using national coding classifications. This requires an in depth knowledge of coding procedures and conventions and the acquisition of medical terminology. An awareness of human anatomy and physiological terms is also necessary. The performance of these tasks requires a high level of concentration in order to ensure the accuracy of this vital data.
