Bid & Business Development Manager/Director - Civil Engineering Contractor - Sevenoaks, Kent

My client, a leading infrastructure services and construction contractor, is looking for a market leading Bid & Business Development Manager/Director to play a key role within a growing Civil Engineering Division that operates across London and the South East.

Due to wider business growth, three areas of the business have been merged to form this substantial Civil Engineering Division that delivers services across built environment structures and assets, highways, rail and heavy civils construction schemes. This division is currently turning over £60 million of work per year, but there is an ambitious growth plan for the next 3-5 years, to take the business to the next level. My client is established across a range of fields and has a reputable brand recognised across London and the South East.

We are looking for an experienced Bid and Business Development Manager/Director who can win work and push forward growth. We are looking for an experienced professional who has worked in the contractor market (Tier 1 or Tier 2) for a number of years and has gravitas within the industry. The ideal person will be a leading strategic work winner that has secured projects and contracts across the civils (highways & rail etc), built environment (structures & assets) and construction markets. However we will consider someone who has a diverse background and has demonstrable experience of winning work across multiple disciplines.

This is a key role for the Civil Engineering Division and the wider business, therefore we have three essential requirements that the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

1) 'Work Winning': We are looking for an experienced work winner who boasts innovative cutting edge ideas that will help put my client ahead of the competition when contributing towards winning bids and tenders i.e. selling value engineering etc.

2) Strategic & Targeted Business Development: We aren't looking for a 'cold caller'. The successful person needs to be a strategic thinker who can help develop and extract new work, build on current relationships, identify new work streams and capitalise on my client's position and reputation in the market.

3) Preconstruction: My client wants is looking to win work that is accurately tendered for, with good margins, which can be successfully delivered within scope and budget by the implementation teams within the business.

The role will be based at my clients Head Office in the Sevenoaks area of Kent but you can expect regular travel to other client locations around London, the M25 and beyond, therefore a clean driving licence is an essential. You must be a motivated, ambitious, presentable, self-starter who can work independently, as much of your time will be spent attending meetings and clients.

We are looking for the best candidates on the market and as such my client has indicated that there is little restraint in relation to salary and bonus for this role (obviously you will have a range of benefits too). They will consider any salary to secure the right person in the business that can operate effectively and help with growth. They are also happy to discuss a commission/performance bonus structure to ensure that the successful candidate is happy and know that that they can earn uncapped commission when they win work.
