Firmware Engineer

The Company:
A Firmware Engineer is required to join a very innovative Research and Development team within a fantastic new facility in beautiful Devon.  (The role could be offered on a 2/3 hybrid basis, but will require some presence in the business M-F). You will have the ability to develop firmware and software to run on this British Manufacturer’s hardware. The successful candidate will display good design engineering practices and offer some experience with firmware from basic bring up/testing through to production ready release. Assisting with production test/programming requirements, this role will see projects through their complete design and life cycle. This role is ideal for anyone wishing to fully develop and maintain a modular software platform that will span many ranges throughout the electrical products.  The position may suit a Graduate / Entry Level Software Engineer with some exposure to C++ (or similar) who is looking to establish and develop an exciting career within Electrical development.
Job Responsibilities:
  •  Develop user bring up, test and production firmware and software for internal developed electrical ranges.
  • Resolve technical needs, supporting the integration of this product into systems.
  • Understand user and business requirements to form framework and long-term strategy for development, evolution, and management.
  • Develop and test software to ensure product brief and goals have been met and software is stable and secure before release.
  • Work with production engineering to ensure robust programming and testing is performed during manufacture.
  • Interpret feedback and roll into development strategy.
  • Suggest new ideas to further enhance the business and user experience.
Preferred Skills:
  • Qualifications or relevant experience in developing software and firmware with C++, platform I/O or similar with experience with WiFi and Bluetooth integration.
  • Familiarity with Expressif, Nordic, STM32 and rPi platforms extremely beneficial.
  • Experience with programming hardware, debuggers, oscilloscopes, and general lab equipment.
  • Demonstrate understanding of failure modes, self-diagnostics, and redundancy within a system.
  • Show comprehensive test/documentation strategy.
  • Be Microsoft Office competent.
  • Work as part of an innovative Electrical Development team or on their own initiative as the project demands.
  • Have a passion for learning, and problem solving.
