Electrical Building Services Design Engineer
Meridian are working with a well-established MEP Contractor in the North-West who are specialists in commercial office projects. On the back of record-breaking years, they are once again looking to grow their Electrical Building Services team. They are therefore looking for a Design Engineer to sit above their CAD Designers to continue growing their business within the North-West. They are therefore looking for a Design Engineer to sit above their CAD Designers to continue growing their business within the North-West. - c.£50k starting salary, with commission available based on performance

- Working on a variety of new-build and refurbishment projects across the North-West such as offices, universities, hospitals, car showrooms, etc.
- Hands-on role, with opportunity to get involved with various parts of the delivery process, from initial consultations with your clients to project delivery and final handover
- Working on commercial CAT-A and CAT-B fit outs across the north-west
- Involvement with the full M&E process to develop your skills and ensure effective project delivery, including pre-contract and post-contract agreements, and the as the commissioning process

Requirements for the role:
- Relevant Building Services degree
- Ideally additional Building Services qualifications and certifications
- Exposure and/or qualifications within the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers
- Relevant experience within commercial Electrical systems, with a thorough understanding of CAT-A and CAT-B fit outs
- Proficiency with IT systems and Microsoft office
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate both within your own team as well as with external customers and clients
- Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
- Strong teamworking skills, with both reporting progress to your senior management but also keeping effective communications with engineers on site
Job duties will include (but are not exclusive to):
Pre-Contract
- Prepare M&E tender documents as and when necessary
- Undertake technical review of clients’ documentation and specifications, producing commentary and guidance on the risks and complications posed.
- Identify Value Engineering Options
- Attend client site visits and interviews
- Undertake analysis of sub-contractor proposals, make recommendations regarding contractor selection.
- Offer valuable input on procurement schedules
- Offer insight on installation programmes to streamline the process
- Manage and review the M&E design process
- Manage and review the validation process
- Review final package scope and cost for all Electrical works.
- Assist with final selection of supply chain partners
- Assist in the suitable procurement of equipment and services from specialist sub-contractors / consultants. Improve our buying (price and service levels) process
- Comment on MEP sub-contractor’s financial variations and final account
- Manage new power, gas, water and telecoms services to site (if applicable)
- Review & Assist the Technical Design - MEP element of online document control systems
- Attend client progress meetings
- Assist the production of MEP progress reports for inclusion within the PM’s report
- Monitor Electrical progress on site
- Manage Electrical close out
- Manage the commissioning process – develop a schedule of what’s expected
- Comment on commissioning programmes
- Facilitate Electrical client training
