About the Role
 
As a Chef in the NHS, you’ll be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals that meet the diverse dietary needs of our patients and staff. Working in a fast-paced environment, you’ll help ensure our catering service runs smoothly and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals in line with dietary requirements and portion control standards.
  • Cater for special diets, including allergens and cultural or religious preferences.
  • Ensure all meals are presented to a high standard and served on time.
  • Assist in menu planning and input ideas for seasonal and nutritious meal options.
  • Maintain strict compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Manage stock levels, including monitoring deliveries and proper storage of ingredients.
  • Work collaboratively with the catering team to ensure smooth operations during busy periods.
 
What We’re Looking For
 
  • Previous experience as a chef or in a similar catering role (essential).
  • NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery or equivalent qualification (desirable).
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends on a rota basis (1 in 3 or 2 in 3).
