Meridian has set up a new LinkedIn Group – Covid 19: We’re in it together. We are all struggling with similar issues during this time of great uncertainly, whether it be financial or business worries, mental health concerns or home schooling your children whilst trying to work from home and so we have put together a fantastic panel of experts who have agreed to be available to answer any queries posed in the group and to also post content. Put simply, the aim is for this Group is to be a one stop shop where you can ask questions, share concerns and insights, start conversations and post and read useful information. Selina Mills | External Engagement Manager, Leonard Cheshire
Selina Mills has worked with Leonard Cheshire as a Senior External Engagement Manager for the past five years, engaging with employers and employees on representing disability and disabled people in the public sphere. Previous to working for the charity, and losing her sight, she was a broadcast and print journalist with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, and was the Property correspondent for the Daily Telegraph. Her first job was as a cub reporter for Reuters in Rome She is currently writing a book on the history of blindness, due to be published early next year by Bloomsbury.
Kate Shoesmith | Director of Sales & Marketing at the REC
Kate has been with the REC, the UK professional body for recruitment, since March 2013. There, she is responsible for the member engagement department which provides account management and brings in new members, marketing and digital services for the business, and customer engagement. Kate is also a spokesperson for the organisation, regularly appearing in the UK media and speaking on platforms to talk about the jobs market, employment policy and skills.
Kate has a background in policy and public affairs, in not-for-profit organisations. Prior to joining REC, Kate was Head of Policy & Corporate Affairs at City & Guilds. She has been a governor for two London further education colleges and an adviser to a number of external forums, including Business in the Community, UNESCO Education for All, Youth Employment UK and Women in Recruitment.
Francis West | CEO of Westtec Cyber Security
Francis is the founder and CEO of Westtec, the Cybersecurity and IT specialists. With 27 years of experience writing software systems and providing IT Support Services, Francis’ main role is to build Westtek Solutions as a business with integrity at its core.
A previous winner of the South African Business Innovation award, Francis networks with black belt efficiency. As a keen go-karter, Francis can often be found competing on tracks around the country. Off the track, Francis has been known to refurbish bathrooms, grow vegetables and build chicken sheds - between keeping all his clients happy!
Jason Martin | Head of Strategy, Recruitment Division, The Access Group
Over the last ten years Jason has worked with the majority of the top 10 staffing agencies across Europe. He’s helped many of the largest recruitment agencies with significant business transformation projects which have enabled them to consolidate, rationalise and streamline their operational processes in order to improve their efficiency, productivity and operate a more profitable business.
He was a key member of the board at Safe Computing, one of the leading software companies to the staffing industry. Following Access’ acquisition of Safe Computing in 2017, Jason’s now responsible for defining Access’ recruitment product strategy, whilst working with some of the top recruitment businesses.
Jason’s is particularly passionate about helping these businesses understand how by using technology and automation they can not only address the challenges of productivity and efficiency but can facilitate a more collaborative and connected way of working across all departments within their organisation.
Paul Chamberlain | Head of Department - Manchester Employment at JMW
Paul is Head of the firm’s Employment team and brings with him over 25 years’ employment law experience.
He has a particular interest (and nationally-recognised expertise) in the law relating to the recruitment industry, advising and providing training on employment status issues, the Agency Workers’ Regulations, GLAA matters, the Working Time Regulations and industry-specific regulatory compliance matters.
He has long-standing associations with TEAM (The Employment Agents’ Movement), REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation), ALP (Association of Labour Providers) and FCSA (Freelancers and Contractor Services Association).
Paul Luukas | Head of Litigation, Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts - Civil Proceedings)
Paul is the Head of Litigation at LPC Law and SCS Law and has over ten years’ experience working in the legal industry. Paul was called to the Bar in 2007, practised as a County Court Advocate for five years, qualified as a Solicitor in 2013 and obtained Higher Rights in Civil Proceedings in 2014. Paul has experience in all areas of civil litigation including contractual disputes, property, insolvency and secured and unsecured recovery work.
Simon Kite | Partner, Saffery Champness LLP
Simon is a partner at Saffery Champness, a top 20 firm of Chartered Accountants. He is the head of their award winning recruitment sector specialist team, which looks after businesses in the staffing sector with a combined turnover in excess of £2.5 billion. They work closely with business owners to maximise the profits and value of their business. They also provide support and advice on employment tax, VAT and other taxes whilst sharing industry insights and best practice.
Michael Romeling | Founder Inside Out
Michael is the founder of Inside Out, the company was established 20 years ago to provide bespoke inspirational leadership, change management and team effectiveness programmes for senior leaders and their teams worldwide. These, combined with the alignment of corporate str ategy and individual/team behaviours, create a new dynamic for growth through people. Michael has 28 years of individual and team behavioural change programme experience. Guy Boxhall | Relationship Director at NatWest Commercial
Guy has been a Relationship Director for NatWest for over 15 years and has worked for the group for over 25 years - so has an excellent knowledge of the commercial sector.
He works with many SME companies helping them grow and has a specialism in "recruitment" companies, looking after the largest number of these business of any relationship manager of any bank. These business range from £1m t/o perm companies to £100m t/o temp business and everything in between.
