The recruitment industry survey tracks both the average salaries awarded to people placed in permanent jobs each month, as well as average hourly rates of pay for temp/contract staff.
Average starting salaries for people placed in permanent jobs increased further in May. The latest rise was the forty-ninth in as many months. Although easing to the slowest since October 2013, the rate of growth remained above the survey’s historical average. Panellists attributed higher salaries to competition for skilled candidates.
Higher salaries were recorded across all monitored English regions, with the strongest rise indicated in the South.
Temp/Contract Pay Rates
Hourly rates of pay for staff in temporary/contract employment rose for a fortieth consecutive month in May. The rate of growth moderated from April’s near nine-year high, although remained marked overall. The inflationary impact of the new National Living Wage was again widely cited by survey respondents.
Agencies based in the North reported the strongest increase in temporary/contract staff pay rates.
