Meet the Team: Annette Sparks
Meridian’s Clinical Healthcare team are second to none and have been awarded a place on the prestigious Crown Commercial Service (CCS), Health Trust Europe and Welsh Board National Frameworks, allowing them to cover and supply NHS and private sector health jobs across all regions of the UK.
Here we have a quick chat with Annette Sparks, Senior Clinical Lead about how her background as a nurse assists in her role at Meridian.
Please give us a brief overview of your background
I have been a nurse for over 40 years. During that time I have held senior roles within the NHS and Independent sector. I have qualifications in Orthopaedic Nursing, Sick Children’s Nursing and Nurse Education. For the last 10 years I have been working in Clinical Governance, Quality and Compliance roles, which have also included an element of nurse training and project management. My last large project was to role out a model of practical Dementia Care (The Butterfly Scheme) to nurses and carers in 31 independent hospitals across the country.
How does your background help you in your role with Meridian?
As a Registered Nurse with up-to-date clinical experience I am able to provide practical advice and support to nurses and carers across our business in Healthcare on day-to-day nursing issues. A key concern for all of our Registered Nurses at the moment is the newly introduced process of revalidation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I have started running Revalidation Workshops which incorporate Reflective Practice discussions which the nurses have found invaluable in supporting their revalidation requirements. I am also able to respond to clients clinical issues and concerns in “nurse to nurse discussions” which clients find very helpful. With my experience in nurse education I am able to advice on the suitability of training courses. From my experience in compliance and governance I can provide assistance with background information for contract conformance.
When you’re not in work, what do you enjoy doing?
My job is fantastic, but like everyone else I like to make the most of my spare time. I enjoy growing my own vegetables, lace making and Knitting. I’m also getting a bit of a reputation for bringing in cakes for my colleagues. I’m also a member of the local skittles team – a popular sport in Summerset!
