There has been much noise in the media over the past few months regarding labour crisis and skills shortages, but what is the real state of affairs? 

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), perm placements and temp bookings continue to rise but the trend of tight candidate availability continues. 

We delve deeper into demand for staff by sector here. Around 41% of the REC’s Report on Jobs panellists reported lower availability of staff availability versus 9% noting an improvement. The Midlands have registered the steepest reduction in permanent candidate and temporary/contract staff availability.
