What is Temping?
Temping is the term used to describe temporary work and a temporary worker is often referred to as a ‘temp’.
Temporary work is based on a non-fixed term assignment given to you by a member of Meridian Business Support to work for one of Meridian’s commercial clients. Although based on a daily basis at a client’s site, we will be in regular contact with you and we will work with you to ensure we find you as much work as we can for as long as you need it.
Temping is a great option for those between permanent roles, or even as an introduction into a new long term position without the same commitment at stake, for those returning to the workplace after a career break, for students looking for holiday work or for anyone wanting to take control of when and where they want to work.
The length of our assignments vary and you will always be advised of the expected duration of an assignment and the pay rate applicable at the start of every assignment. You will work for us under a ‘Contract for Services’ and be earning holiday pay for every hour that you work. Whether you need a temporary worker to cover for an unexpected gap in your team owing to sickness or to plan for continuity over holiday periods or whether you need a team of workers to help you fulfill a project or a temporary increase in business activity Meridian Commercial can help. It may be that you are recruiting on a permanent basis (see
permanent employment) and in that case a temporary worker can plug that gap and keep your business running while you recruit, easing the pressure while you go through your recruitment process. Very often our clients find that the temporary worker providing cover fits the bill themselves.
We have a database of fully registered, referenced and appropriately evaluated applicants ready for work every day, even at short notice. You can also be rest assured that Meridian is fully compliant and we always ensure that our workers have the appropriate authorities and licenses to work in the UK.
Our workers work with Meridian under a ‘Contract for Services’ although will be under your direction and control while on site. We pay the temporary worker weekly and then invoice you once the work in complete at end of each week, we worry about tax and NI deductions and accrue the holiday pay and help manage the relationship between you and the worker on a day to day basis.
